Tips for Visiting the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum (Pinterest Pin)What is the Creation Museum and Where is it Located?

Let’s begin with some background information. The Creation Museum, nestled in Petersburg, Kentucky, is a one-of-a-kind attraction dedicated to showcasing the biblical account of creation.

Many people, like us, assume that the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter are near each other or located on the same property.  However, it is approximately 45 miles north of the Ark Encounter, so plan accordingly.

From life-size exhibits to intriguing presentations, this museum brings the Book of Genesis to life in a way that’s both educational and entertaining.

What is the Ark Encounter and Where is it Located?

About 45 miles South of the Creation Museum, the Ark Encounter is located in Williamstown, Kentucky. This sprawling attraction is home to a magnificent replica of Noah’s Ark, built in 2016 to biblical proportions.

We took the backroads through “horse country” near Paris, Kentucky, instead of driving the interstate.  Gorgeous farms!

Step aboard the life-size replica that is 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and 51 feet tall.

Ark Encounter is the largest timber-frame structure in the world, built in part by skilled Amish craftsmen from standing dead timber.

Journey back in time as you explore three decks filled with exhibits, interactive displays, and exquisite craftsmanship.

Suggested Time Needed to Explore the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum

When planning your visit to the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum, allocating the right amount of time ensures a fulfilling experience.

For the Ark Encounter, plan to spend a minimum of 4-6 hours to fully explore the massive replica of Noah’s Ark, including its exhibits, gardens, and zoo.

If you’re wanting to get a full experience and see each exhibit in detail, consider extending your visit to a full day.

Similarly, the Creation Museum warrants at least 3-4 hours for a comprehensive exploration of its indoor and outdoor exhibits, planetarium shows, and botanical gardens.

To make the most of your time, prioritize your must-see attractions and allocate additional time for dining and relaxation.

Whether you’re planning a day trip or making it a weekend getaway, these suggested time frames ensure a rewarding experience at both attractions.

Which Place Should I Visit First – the Ark Encounter or the Creation Museum?

Now, you might be wondering which of these incredible attractions to visit first. While both offer unforgettable experiences, I recommend starting your journey at the Creation Museum.

The Creation Museum sets the stage perfectly for your visit to the Ark Encounter, providing essential context and background information that will enrich your understanding of Noah’s Ark and the biblical flood.

Visitor’s Guide to the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum

The Ark Encounter

The Ark Encounter is truly a sight to behold, offering visitors a glimpse into the biblical story of Noah’s Ark on a grand scale. As my husband and I recently discovered during our visit, the size and complex building construction of the Ark are truly awe-inspiring. It’s hard to believe that such a massive structure could have been built thousands of years ago!

Inside the Ark, you’ll find a maze of exhibits, interactive displays, and there is even a petting zoo at the attraction.

The Fascinating Animal Feeding System at the Ark Encounter

One of the things that fascinated us the most at the Ark Encounter was the portrayal of the complex feeding systems designed to sustain the approximately 850 animals per person on board. It’s a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of Noah and his family.

This system, as depicted in the exhibits, showcases the incredible ingenuity and planning required to sustain the vast array of animals on board for the duration of their journey.

The exhibits at the Ark Encounter illustrate how Noah and his family would have meticulously prepared and stored food for themselves and for the animals prior to the flood. Large storage areas within the ark would have been filled with provisions such as grains, hay, and dried fruits and vegetables, ensuring a steady food supply for the duration of their voyage.

But what truly sets the animal feeding system apart is its complexity and efficiency. The exhibits demonstrate how Noah and his family would have utilized a series of catwalks, ramps, and storage containers to distribute food and water to the various decks of the ark, ensuring that each animal had access to the sustenance they needed to survive.

Additionally, the exhibits highlight the importance of water management aboard the ark. Noah and his family would have needed to ensure a constant supply of fresh water for drinking and bathing, which would have required sophisticated systems for collection, storage, and distribution.

Overall, the portrayal of the animal feeding system at the Ark Encounter offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the practical challenges faced by Noah and his family as they cared for the animals aboard the ark. It serves as a testament to their resourcefulness and dedication and invites reflection on the miraculous nature of the biblical account of the flood.

Emzara’s Kitchen Buffet

During our visit to the Ark Encounter, Ernie and I had the pleasure of dining at Emzara’s Kitchen Buffet, and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

From the moment we stepped onto the scenic deck overlooking the Ark, we knew we were in for a treat. The buffet items were not only fresh but incredibly tasty, offering a delightful array of flavors to tantalize our taste buds.

What impressed us most was the restaurant’s spacious seating area and the efficient manner in which the buffet was maintained. Despite the bustling crowd, there was always plenty of room to navigate and serve ourselves, ensuring a stress-free dining experience for all.

Whether you’re craving comfort classics or lighter fare, Emzara’s Kitchen Buffet delivers on both taste and ambiance, making it a must-visit destination during your time at the Ark Encounter.

For those seeking a quick and convenient bite, walking tacos are a popular choice, providing a deliciously portable meal that’s perfect for exploring the grounds.

And no visit to the Ark Encounter would be complete without indulging in a sweet treat, whether it’s creamy ice cream, freshly baked cookies, or a refreshing smoothie. And of course, no meal is complete without a piping hot cup of coffee to start your day off right.

With an abundance of dining options scattered throughout the property, you’ll never go hungry during your visit to the Ark Encounter.

The Creation Museum

Next up, we have the Creation Museum, a treasure trove of exhibits dedicated to exploring the biblical account of creation. As my husband and I wandered through the museum, we were struck by the thought-provoking displays and thoughtfully curated exhibits.

Inside the museum, you’ll find exhibits that delve into the fascinating debate between biblical creation and evolution. It’s a thought-provoking journey that’s sure to spark lively discussions and deepen your understanding of the world around us.

4D Theatre

Ernie and I experienced the 4D Theatre during our visit to the Ark Encounter. This state-of-the-art theater takes movie-watching to a whole new level, immersing viewers in a multisensory journey that’s as thrilling as it is educational.

Encounter the Wonder, an 11-minute show, shared the profound story of creation, the fall of man, and the promise of redemption through Jesus Christ.

As the special effects brought this stunning 3D program to life, we couldn’t help but marvel at the beautiful plan of salvation that began in a garden 6,000 years ago. The gospel message, beginning in Genesis, unfolds before your eyes, leaving you deeply moved by the magnitude of God’s love.

In addition to Encounter the Wonder, we also had the opportunity to watch In Six Days, a 22-minute presentation that vividly brought creation week to life.

As plants, animals, and even dinosaurs sprang to life at God’s command, you can’t help but be moved by the power of God’s creation.

Animated in spectacular 3D and enhanced with unexpected special effects, the presentation provides a deeper understanding of Genesis Chapter 1, through the teachings of God’s original creation. It is an awe-inspiring experience that leaves you with a newfound appreciation for the power and majesty of our Creator.

Stargazer Planetarium

The Stargazer Planetarium at the Creation Museum offers visitors a captivating journey through the cosmos. Inside this state-of-the-art facility, guests are treated to immersive shows that explore the wonders of the universe from a biblical perspective.

Using cutting-edge technology, including a full-dome projection system, the planetarium brings to life the beauty and complexity of the night sky, allowing visitors to marvel at the handiwork of the Creator.

Whether you’re gazing up at the stars or delving into the mysteries of distant galaxies, the Stargazer Planetarium offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you in awe of God’s incredible creation.

Ernie and I did not go into the Stargazer Planetarium and there is an extra charge for this area of the museum.

Creation Museum Botanical Gardens

One of the highlights of our visit was exploring the stunning botanical gardens surrounding the museum. From colorful flowers to exotic plants, the gardens are a feast for the senses and a perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration.

The botanical gardens at the Creation Museum are a sprawling sanctuary nestled within the picturesque landscape surrounding the museum. Designed to provide a serene retreat for visitors, these gardens boast a rich tapestry of plant life that reflects the diverse beauty of God’s creation.

As you step into the gardens, you’ll be greeted by a blanket of colors and fragrances, with vibrant blooms adorning every corner. From delicate roses to unique flowering trees, each plant seems to whisper tales of the Creator’s boundless creativity.

Meandering pathways wind their way through the garden, inviting you to explore at your leisure. Along the way, you’ll discover a tranquil 3 acre pond filled with colorful koi. Waterfalls cascade over weathered stones, creating a soothing symphony of sound.

But the beauty of the botanical gardens goes beyond its visual splendor. It’s a place of learning and discovery, where visitors can gain a deeper appreciation for the mysteries of the natural world. Interpretive signs provide insights into the flowers, shrubs, and trees and their unique characteristics.

For those with a green thumb, the gardens offer inspiration aplenty. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a novice enthusiast, you’re sure to find ideas to take home and implement in your own outdoor space.

But perhaps the most profound aspect of the botanical gardens is its sense of peace and tranquility. With the hustle and bustle of modern life, this colorful sanctuary offers a welcome respite—a place to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the Creator through the beauty of His handiwork.

So next time you visit the Creation Museum, be sure to set aside some time to wander through the botanical gardens. Whether you’re seeking inspiration, relaxation, or simply a moment of quiet contemplation, you’ll find it amidst the splendor of God’s creation.

Eden Zoo

During our visit, the Eden Zoo was closed for upgrades and expansion.  However, the zoo animals had been moved to the Ark Encounter’s Ararat Zoo while those renoations take place.

Dining at the Creation Museum

With a variety of dining options to suit every taste and preference, visitors are treated to a satisfying menu.

Whether you’re craving a hearty meal or a quick bite on the go, the museum offers an array of dining venues to choose from.

Noah’s Cafe

For those seeking a sit-down dining experience, Noah’s Café provides a welcoming atmosphere and a diverse menu featuring classic favorites and seasonal specialties.

From juicy burgers and crispy salads to savory sandwiches and mouthwatering entrees, there’s something to tempt every palate. And with options for kids and adults alike, it’s the perfect spot for families to refuel and recharge before continuing their exploration of the museum.

The Palm Café at the Creation Museum

While at the Creation Museum, we dined at the Palm Café, located in the lower level of the museum.

We each had the 8″ pizza and were surprised by how delicious it was.  It is a little larger than a “personal size” pizza and has the option of cheese or cheese and pepperoni.  And the prices are surprisingly very reasonable.  The Palm also has sandwiches and breadsticks, and they offer daily specials/combo deals at a reduced price.

When hunger strikes, be sure to check out the dining options at the Creation Museum. From grab-and-go snacks to sit-down meals, there’s something to satisfy every craving. On the way out, don’t miss The Tree of Life Café for a tasty bite and a chance to browse through a selection of unique gifts and souvenirs.
