It’s difficult to find a beautiful winter wreath that isn’t a holiday theme.  But with this wreath, you can add some winter vibes with a wreath that is not Christmas themed, but one you could use from December through February.

Let’s dive into the step-by-step process and discover the joy of crafting with winter cardinal wreath together!

Supplies Used in this Winter Cardinal Wreath

For this winter wreath project, I used these supplies:

Tools used in this winter wreath project:

Fluffing the Pine Wreath:

Alright, friends, it’s fluffing time! As you know, when our materials come in, a little TLC is required. This 24-inch flocked pine wreath, fresh from JoAnn Fabrics, needs a bit of attention before we dive into the festive fun.

Take a good look at your wreath, and you’ll notice it might be a tad compressed from its journey. Not to worry – we’re here to bring it back to life. Gently start separating and fluffing those pine branches. Give them a little love and room to breathe. This step not only adds dimension but also creates a fuller, more inviting wreath.

Don’t be afraid to get hands-on – reshape the branches, adjust the needles, and let the wreath regain its natural, lush appearance.

Adding Florals and Embellishments:

Now that our wreath is beautifully fluffed, it’s time to bring it to life with florals and delightful embellishments. I’m choosing from an assortment of pine floral picks, ruscus leaves, lambs ear, red berries, long-needled pine, and frosted mistletoe with red berries.

As we go along, keep in mind that we want to create a balanced and visually appealing wreath. I’m adding these elements around the entire wreath, making sure to distribute them evenly.

To maintain a harmonious look, I prefer using odd numbers – 3, 5, or 7 picks – avoiding even numbers like 2, 4, 6, or 8.

Applying glue to the stem of each floral, I use a quick circular motion around the stem to eliminate any trailing glue strings. Then, gently place the floral stem into the lush pine, securing it in place.

Sometimes, I like to visually position the floral before adding glue to ensure it’s in the perfect spot. It’s all about creating a wreath that’s not just festive but also pleasing to the eye.

Creating the Perfect Ribbon Bow:

Now that our wreath is taking shape, it’s time to add that final touch – a stunning ribbon bow.

To make this process easier, I’ve got my handy bow maker tool, and if you’re wondering where to snag one, you can get it here. it’s been a game-changer in achieving those flawless bows.

I start by cutting the two ribbon tails from the 2 1/2″ ribbon.  I cut them 14″ long.

Next I start with the 2 1/2″ ribbon and make two 7″ loops on each side, then two 7″ loops of the 1 1/2″ ribbon.

I secure it in place with a pipe cleaner and then add the ribbon tails to the back, also securing with the pipe cleaner.

Then I cut a piece of the 1 1/2″ ribbon, fold it over, and tie it around the middle of the bow to cover the pipe cleaner.

Fluff the bow by separating the loops and using your hand to smooth out the wire.  This creates a rounded loop and makes the bow “stand up”.

I secure the bow to the wreath base using the pipe cleaner stems.

Attaching the Crafted Sign to Your Wreath:

Now it’s time to bring it all together by attaching the beautiful sign we crafted earlier. If you missed the tutorial on creating this wooden round sign, check out the video – Easy DIY Wood Sign using Creative Fabrica, if you want to catch up. Or you can watch it below.
