Tools & Supplies for Frustration-Free DIY Painting Projects
Hey there, fabulous mid-life ladies! If you’re anything like me, you’ve thought about embarking on a new DIY painting project adventure.
My daughter and her fiance recently purchased a new home, so my husband and I have taken on the task of remodeling. I’ve learned a few tips and tricks for saving time, money, and frustration as we tackle these DIY painting projects.
Join us as we are knee-deep in paint cans, brushes, and rollers. It’s a tiring process, but we’re making it through, one brushstroke at a time!
I’d love it you’d share this post on social media, PIN it for later, or share it with a friend by sending it to their email.
Unleash the Power of Specialty Painting Tools
Now, let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of my latest obsession: specialty painting tools. These little wonders have turned our DIY painting project into a much quicker and easier task. Whether you’re tackling the kitchen, doors, ceilings, walls, or trim, these tools are your secret weapons to a polished finish.
Essential Specialty Tools for Your Mid-Life DIY Painting Project
- Remove Baseboards and Door Trim with Ease: Using this slick trim remover tool, it only took about 15 minutes to remove all the baseboard trim in the entire house! I ordered this trim puller before we started this project, and Ernie said he wished he had this tool years ago. It made the trim removal process a breeze!
- A Good Cut Brush – NO Painter’s Tape Required: Yep, you read that right! Ernie never uses painter’s tape. He can “cut-in” a room quicker than I could tape a door frame. Ladies, let’s not underestimate the power of precision. A good, stiff, cut brush is your best friend for crisp, clean lines. Trust me; it’s the unsung hero in our DIY painting project saga. Ernie prefers this Purdy 2 1/2″, and the bristles are stiff, which makes the cut lines extra crisp and easy.
- Paint Tray Liners: Who has time to scrub paint trays? Not us! These disposable paint tray liners are an absolute game-changer. Pop one in, pour your paint, and when you’re done, just toss it in the trash. Easy-peasy!
- Handy Paint Pail: This little hand-held paint bucket is super comfortable to hold with the strap. And you can also purchase liners for easy cleanup. It has a convenient magnetic brush holder on the inside that keeps your brush from falling into the paint. It’s a must-have!
- Extension Poles: Safety first, ladies! Don’t strain your back reaching those high parts! Extension poles, like this Purdy Extension Pole, attach to your rollers, letting you paint those high walls and ceilings without a ladder. I recommend getting a pole that clicks into place instead of the ones that twist tighten. We had one of the twisty poles, and it just didn’t stay in place. That made a big mess when it would collapse mid-roll!
- Plastic Store Bags: Yep, a Walmart bag works great for wrapping up the rushes and rollers to use later. No clean-up is required! Just wrap the bag around the paint brushes or the used roller cover while it’s still attached to the roller. It will stay wet and usable for 2-3 days. This also works for the paint pans and the pail buckets (above).
- Paint Brush/Roller Cover Comb: This little gadget makes cleanup a breeze. Not only will you save time, but it will also help to keep your brushes in good shape for the next DIY job. Use the rounded side of the brush/roller comb to squeegee out the paint on your roller covers, and you can reuse them after they are rinsed and dried.
These specialty painting tools aren’t just for saving time and effort; they’re about making your DIY painting projects more enjoyable. When the project goes more smoothly, you’re much more likely to tackle another project. Before long, your DIY painting projects go from a chore into a craft, from a task into an adventure. And what’s life without a little adventure, right?
Remember, we’re not just making over our homes; we’re making memories, and every brushstroke is a part of that story. So, slap on your painting clothes, put on your favorite tunes, and let’s transform those spaces together!
