Overcoming Analysis Paralysis Using My Yearly Power Word
For the last few years, I have chosen a word that serves as my focus and guiding principle for the year. It’s my way of giving the year ahead a theme, a purpose, and a personal challenge.
For 2025, my word is Potential. It’s a word that resonates deeply with where I am in life, the goals I want to achieve, and the barriers I need to break down to get there.
And, to anchor this word, I’ve chosen Ephesians 3:20 as my scripture:
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
This word and scripture remind me that potential isn’t just about what I can do—it’s about what I can accomplish when I trust that God’s power is working in me. And that is super important to me.
It’s a reminder to step forward, to act, and to stop standing in my own way.
So, in this article, I want to share with you how I plan to use my Potential this year and move forward in my semi-retirement and in my small businesses.

The Struggle with Overthinking
Let me give you a little background. I’m a researcher and an over-analyzer by nature. Bigtime!
When I get an idea—whether it’s a project, a new skill I want to learn, or even a simple task—I can’t just jump into action. Oh no, I dive headfirst into a rabbit hole of information. Articles, YouTube videos, workshops, podcasts—you name it, I consume it.
This hunger for knowledge isn’t completely bad. It’s helped me learn and grow in so many areas of my life.
But there’s a flip side: paralysis by analysis.
The more I research, the harder it becomes to take that first step. I end up buried under so much information that I can’t figure out where to start. I stay stuck, overwhelmed, and unsure.

Maybe you’ve been there, too—wanting to do something but feeling like you need one more piece of information before you can begin.
It’s exhausting and frustrating, and it creates a cycle of inaction.
That’s why “Potential” is such a powerful word for me this year. It’s my way of breaking free from that cycle.
What “Potential” Means to Me
When I think of the word potential, I think of untapped resources—hidden strengths and talents that are just waiting to be used.
It’s about what’s possible if I step out in faith and act on what I already know instead of waiting until I feel perfectly prepared (because, let’s face it, that day never comes).
This word is deeply tied to Ephesians 3:20.
That verse reminds me that God’s power within me is greater than anything I could imagine on my own.
It’s not about perfection; it’s about trusting that God has equipped me with everything I need to succeed. My potential isn’t something I have to create; it’s already there. I just need to step into it.
Moving from Knowledge to Action
One of my biggest goals for 2025 is to move from being a perpetual student to becoming a doer. It’s not enough to have ideas or knowledge—I need to take action.
For example, I’ve spent countless hours researching business strategies, creative techniques, and productivity hacks.
I have notebooks filled with ideas, plans, and notes. But what good are they if they stay in the notebook?
This year, I’m challenging myself to take those ideas and implement them, even if it’s messy or imperfect.
It’s not easy for someone like me to let go of the need to feel “ready,” but that’s what Potential is about—realizing I’m already equipped to move forward. And with God’s power working in me, the possibilities are limitless.

Here’s how I plan to live out my word this year:
Setting Smaller, Actionable Goals: Instead of overwhelming myself with massive to-do lists, I’m breaking my projects into smaller, manageable steps. Each step will be an opportunity to tap into my potential and build momentum.
Limiting Research Time: I’ve decided to set boundaries on how much time I spend researching. I’ve gathered enough to take the first step, so I’m going to stop, trust what I’ve learned, and move forward.
Creating Accountability: I’m sharing my goals with you, and you’re welcome to hold me accountable. Having someone check in with me will push me to act instead of overthink. So, I invite you to check in throughout the year and see how things are going!
Reflecting on Progress: At the end of each month, I’ll reflect on how I’ve lived out my potential. This will help me stay focused and motivated.
Leaning into Faith: Whenever fear or doubt creeps in, I’ll turn to Ephesians 3:20. I’ll remind myself: my potential isn’t just about my abilities—it’s about God’s power working through me.
What I Hope to Achieve
By focusing on Potential, I hope to accomplish two things this year: first, I want to see tangible results from the ideas I’ve been sitting on. Whether it’s a project I’ve been dreaming of, a skill I want to sharpen, or a personal goal I’ve been procrastinating on, I’m determined to act.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, I want to change my mindset.
I want to stop doubting my abilities and start trusting in the gifts God has given me.
I want to look back and see a year where I didn’t just think about what was possible—I lived it.

- Don’t let fear, doubt, or the need for perfection hold you back.

- Choosing a power word like Potential is more than a motivational exercise; it’s a way to focus your energy and intention on what matters most.
- It’s a daily reminder to step into the life you’re called to live.
For me, it’s the push I need to move from dreaming to doing.
